… This happened to me – So let me share how to get past the scam that is the Facebook Account Deactivation process.
When deactivating your account, you will be faced with several reasons of which you can pick only one. Any of these will deactivate your account, but you will soon find your account re-activated automatically, as this happens after 7 days. This means that picking I no longer find Facebook useful will reward you with a reactivated account after 7 days. Which, naturally, they will not tell you.
Right – enough sarcasm, let’s go!

Keep in mind that if you choose to keep Messenger active or are logged into Messenger when you deactivate your Facebook account, then Messenger will remain active.
… In other words, if you want to keep Messenger, stay logged in when deactivating.
- Head over to https://accountscenter.facebook.com
- Click Personal details
- Click Account ownership and control
- Click Deactivation or deletion
- Select the account you want to deactivate
- Click Deactivate account -> Continue
- Confirm with your password
- Select This is temporary. I’ll be back. -> Continue
- This will give you a dropdown in which you can select the time. Pick Don’t reactivate automatically -> Continue
- Confirm, clicking Deactivate my account
