Connecting to a XenServer host from XenCenter might give you the following error: “Failed”,”Failed to connect to XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send.”
In this example we’ll use 10.0.0.90 as the test IP.
The initial error you’ll see is this error below, when trying to connect to your host.

It’s happened for me a few times, and I’ve expected it to be a firewall issue every time. However, it’s often more simple than that. Here’s how to fix it:
- Open an SSH connection to the host.
- When you’re in, write xsconsole.
- When the UI opens, it’ll show as depicted below.
- Press F8 to restart xapi.
- When xapi has restarted, attempt connection again.

Upon connection, you should see that you can now connect without issues.

If it doesn’t work for you, write a comment. It would be great to see if there are other ways to solve this type of issue!
Over’n’out!
